Students have a ball at gaming league

Short-listed from over 5,000 contestants, 100 students participate

HYDERABAD: It was cricket match that lasted for just 15-minutes. However, was good enough to test the video gaming abilities of students from various city schools. All of them tried to outwit and outdo the other, while scoring maximum runs in just five-overs at the Paddle Pop Gaming League held at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan on Saturday.

Short-listed from over 5,000 contestants, 100 students in the age group of 7 to 13 years played several such 15-minute matches in the Kwality Wall’s Paddle Pop Gaming League champion prize.

Every time the contestants hit a six or a boundary, the auditorium pulsated with electrifying music and the cheers from the supporters. The event, which was organised in collaboration with Zapak.com website, also had two giant screens, which added to the overall excitement among the audience.

“This is fantastic. Earlier there was not much of recognition to gaming competitions but this league will definitely change the online gaming culture. We just love it,” said Nikitha Jennifer, a student of St. Joseph’s School.

Apart from cheering for the contestants, lots of fun games were lined-up for the audience and parents. Events like online car racing games, ice-cream eating competitions and drawing contests were conducted for them. “Events like this provide a prefect weekend outing for students and their parents. It helps in relieving stress,” said Anupama, a teacher.

While, M. Manish who scored with 141 runs losing three wickets in five overs was adjudged the Hyderabad Paddle Pop Champion, Krishna Rohit (105 / 5) and Bhargava Aditya (82 /7) bagged the second and third prizes respectively. The winners were presented with EA Sports Gaming Console, gift vouchers from Reebok and Gini and Jony merchandise. The Hindu Young World is the print partner of the event.
