“Do not fall prey to brokers”

Civic body cautions house owners

MAYILADUTURAI: The Mayiladuturai municipality in Nagapattinam district has started giving connections to the underground drainage system in the town and cautioned house and building owners that some people were cheating the residents of getting them the connection immediately.A senior official said on Saturday that the underground drainage work had been completed and it had been proposed to give 13,624 connections in the town.

House and building owners had paid a non-refundable deposit of Rs,5,000 per connection. House owners had to pay only Rs.150. It was the duty of the house owners to lay the pipeline from the septic tank to the entrance of the house or building on their own by engaging mason and workers.

The municipality will give permission after completing the pipeline work in houses and then connect it to the main underground pipeline laid on the road.

Meanwhile, Kalimuthu, Municipal Commissioner, had stated that he received a number of complaints from house owners that some people were approaching them for getting connection. He appealed to the house owners to inform about these brokers or others to the municipal authorities at telephone number 04364 222554 for taking action against them.

He appealed to the house owners to get the UGD connection as early as possible so that the mosquito problem could be solved to a great extent.
