Three die after taking illicit liquor

SALEM: Three persons died and 27 others were hospitalised, after they consumed illicit liquor in a village near Bommidi in Dharmapuri district on Saturday.
Police sources said several residents of Kutkalmalai village and neighbouring areas reportedly consumed the liquor sold by an arrack trader.
Soon after, seven persons fainted and were rushed to the Bommidi Primary Health Centre.
They were given first aid and referred to Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital.
While, Selvam (32) died on way, Velu and Gopal died at the hospital.
The condition of others was said to be serious. The Bommidi police are investigating.
Many people in the neighbouring district of Krishnagiri were killed in a recent illicit liquor tragedy.
