KAPURTHALA: Punjab and Chhattisgarh successfully defended the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the 35th National sub-junior basketball championship at the Sainik School courts, here on Saturday. Punjab boys dominated the proceedings against Delhi and won 43-36. In the girls’ final, Saranjeet Kaur was the star as she slotted 26 points to help Chhattisgarh score a 60-31 triumph over Uttar Pradesh. The scores: Boys: Final: Punjab 43 bt Delhi 36. Third place: Uttar Pradesh 48 (Aman Singh 12) bt Chhattisgarh 44 (Vijay Pratap Singh 16, Murali 14). Girls: Final: Chhattisgarh 60 (Saranjeet Kaur 26, Sangeeta 10) bt Uttar Pradesh 31 (Sweta 15). Third place: Tamil Nadu 42 (Shiny Prasanna 15, Suganya 10) bt Jharkhand 25 (Aditi Tudu 10).
