Springing a pleasant surprise

PUDUCHERRY: It was a pleasant surprise for 12 young mothers who gave birth at the Government Maternity Hospital here on Sunday.

When Puducherry Munnetra Congress MLA N. Anandu stepped into the hospital, the employees thought that he was visiting as the people’s representative. But he sprang a surprise, informing the hospital staff that he had an entirely different job to accomplish as president of the Puducherry “Vijay Narpani Manram.”.

Shortly after offering prayers at places of worship on the occasion of the actor’s birthday, Mr. Anandu went to the maternity hospital to present gold rings to the lucky infants, bringing cheers to their mothers and relatives.

Mr. Anandu distributed free dhotis and saris to 100 persons, and rice and sugar packets to the poor at another function. Free notebooks and textbooks were distributed to students, he said.

The branches of the manram, named after the titles of Vijay’s blockbusters, held programmes, including poor feeding, in different parts of Puducherry.
