24,078 seats on offer today Cet scan

BANGALORE: General merit seats in about 10 colleges in Bangalore have been filled across all departments.

Even as the unreserved seats are fast getting over with only about 7,000 general seats remaining in the State at the end of the first week of the seat selection process, students continue to pour into Bangalore city in the hope of getting a seat of their choice.

However, the Karnataka Examinations Authority has reminded students that there is no need to panic.

Last year, all seats got filled in the first round with students taking provisional admissions.

Yet, at the end of the admission process, the Karnataka Examinations Authority had to surrender nearly 3,500 seats to private colleges.

“Students should not panic when they see the seat positions. It is always like this. These seats are bound to resurface during the casual vacancy round,” said Syed Jamal, Special Officer, Karnataka Examinations Authority, as he urged students not to lose heart.

There will be 24,078 seats on offer when counselling resumes on Monday.

Karnataka is the first in South India to start its counselling process and seat selection, though several other tests such as the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination and Indian Institutes of Technology are yet to commence.

This means that students who have chosen seats are likely to pull out. Some may chose medicine and other courses too.

And when the second week of seat selection starts on Monday, there will be 24,078 seats in total with 4,361 seats in electronics, 4,752 in Computers and 4,452 in Mechanical.

Besides Electrical Engineering (2,114), Information Sciences (3,132) and Civil Engineering (2,057); the number of seats in all other branches are in hundreds.

Specialised courses such as Mining, Ceramics and Polymer Technology among others have about 20 seats remaining.
