Warm greetings: Governor R.L. Bhatia shaking hands with M.V. Pylee, former Vice-Chancellor of Cusat, at the valedictory function of the golden jubilee of the Indian Management Association in Kochi on Sunday.

KOCHI: Governor R.L. Bhatia has exhorted youth to acquire the skills required to meet the challenges posed by a globalised economy and to utilise the new opportunities provided by breakthroughs in science and technology.

Addressing the valedictory of the golden jubilee celebrations of Kerala Management Association (KMA) here on Sunday, he called upon management institutions and human resource development agencies to focus more on development of human skills so as to become competitive in the age of globalisation and liberalisation.

The Governor said that development of human skills had become all the more important in the wake of the information technology (IT) revolution and the surge in other sectors like healthcare and tourism.

These new developments pose unprecedented challenges for manag- ement institutions like the KMA, the Governor said as he lauded the pioneering contributions of the association.

He gave away mementos to the past presidents of KMA, including to M.V. Pylee, association’s senior-most past president.

Prof. Pylee delivered the keynote address at the function.

Mementos were also presented to P. Kesavan, V.N. Venugopal, Thomas Oommen, K.P. Philip, T.T. Thomas, A.K. Mathews, A.K. Nair, Jose P. Philip, O.T.S. Nambiar, S.R. Nair, N.R. Pai and Sunil Zachariah.

P. Ravindranath, who delivered the presidential address, said that KMA was going ahead with its plans to set up a management institute.

At an earlier function, Vice Admiral Sunil K. Damle, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, gave away the ‘KMA Manager of the Year 2008’ award to B. Binoay, Marketing Head, Idea Cellular Kerala.

The Vice-Admiral also gave away the KMA-Toshiba Anand and KMA OEN Rolling Trophies to Geojit Financial Services Limited, IBS Software and Binani Zinc who emerged in the first three places respectively in the Young Managers’ contest organised by the association.
