JAIPUR: The Centre has approved projects for development of Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur at a cost of Rs.42 crore and improvement of the Walled City area in Jaipur at a cost of Rs.29 crore. The Centre will bear 70 per cent of the cost of the lake plan under the National Lake Conservation Project. State Local Self Secretary Manjeet Singh said here over the week-end that the development of the Walled City would be taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) as part of which the Centre, the State government and the Jaipur Municipal Corporation would bear 50 per cent, 20 per cent and 30 per cent of the cost respectively. Mr. Singh said the project at Fateh Sagar Lake would involve desilting of the lake area, installation of a sewage treatment plant, beautification of the adjacent area and installation of fountains. The project for the Walled City in Jaipur was approved at a meeting presided over by Union Urban Development Secretary M. Ramachandran here over the week-end to review the progress of schemes worth Rs.1,800 crore launched under JNNURM in the State. Mr. Singh said that the project would involve underground laying of streetlight wires, development of parking areas, beautification of historical monuments, improvement in the drainage system and introduction of heritage walks, besides the establishment of “culinary spots” offering Rajasthani delicacies. He added that both the projects would be completed within the next year and a half.
