Special Correspondent

‘It will make company a leading supplier of iodised salt”

Raje assures support for developing area as tourist spot

JAIPUR: The new salt refinery of Sambhar Salts Limited that has an annual production capacity of one lakh tonnes is getting ready for commissioning in October. It will cater to the growing requirement of affordable edible salt in the country.

Union Minister of State Raghunath Jha, who visited Sambhar Salts premises in the lake township of Sambhar here on Saturday, said that the new plant would make the company, a subsidiary of Hindustan Salts Limited, a leading supplier of iodised salt. The new plant would ensure the availability of quality edible salt, supplemented with iodine, at cheaper rates, he added.

Mr. Jha also met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje at her office on Friday and discussed the development programmes at Sambhar Salts Ltd. He briefed her on the plans for the development of Sambhar as a tourist spot keeping in view the potential of the Sambhar Lake, which is a wetland listed among the Ramsar sites. Ms. Raje offered him all support in the running of the Sambhar Salt units and also in the area as a tourist spot.

Chairman and Managing Director of Sambhar Salts M.M. Bhardwaj, claimed that both Hindustan Salts and its subsidiary delivered a commendable performance last year. Both the companies registered a record production and came out of the red after making losses for many years. The companies are poised to do well this year too, he noted.
