Appeal: MLA S.K. Basavarajan addressing farmers during a protest in Chitradurga on Sunday. Chitradurga: Farmers under the aegis of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) staged a protest near Mahatma Gandhi Circle here on Sunday. They demanded that the State Government pay a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the family of Siddalingappa Churi, the farmer killed in Haveri police firing. Members of the AIKS, who are taking out a procession to Bangalore, are also collecting donations to be given to Churi’s family. In a release, they demanded the State Government complete the investigation into the firing and punish those responsible for Churi’s death. ‘Incident unfortunate’Addressing the protesters, MLA S.K. Basavarajan termed the incident unfortunate. Mr. Basavarajan held the Bharatiya Janata Party Government in the State responsible for the farmer’s death.
