TDCA celebrates

Theni: The eighth Annual Day of the Theni District Cricket Association was celebrated at Theni on Saturday. Mr. Srinivas R. Reddy, District Forest Officer, who presided, gave away the Trophies to the Canara Bank-TDCA first and second division league champions and Mr. N.R. Manivannan, vice-president, TNCA distributed the special prizes to the players. Mr. Julius Vijayakumar, Assistant secretary, TNCA and T.R. Kasiappan, one-day international panel umpire felicitated.

First Division (SRTL Trophy) champion: Sri Renuga Textile Mills CC. Special awards: All rounder: Pushparaj (CMR CC); Bowler: Raja (Cosmo CC); Batsman: Elangovan (SRTL); Promising youngster: Sujith Kannan (SRTL); Best performance in SS Rajan Trophy inter-district tournament: Kanagavel (Cosmo CC).

Second division (LS Mills Trophy) champion: Theni Medical College. Special awards: All rounder: Bobby (Kombai CC); Bowler: Kumar (Speed Boys, Bodi); Batsman: Aravind (Medical College); Promising youngster: V. Alaganathan (SRTL).

Aravind triumphs

Aravind Chidambaram of TVS Matriculation HSS won the above-14 title in the Madurai District open chess tournament for boys and girls organised by Meenakshi Chess centre of Vajapayee Trust at Madurai on Sunday.
