Applications invited for elocution contest

PUDUCHERRY: Applications are invited from school and college students for preliminary rounds of the ‘Thirukkural Elocution Contest 2008’ conducted by Shriram Group.

The preliminary round for students in Puducherry will be held at Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School on August 10, according to a release.

Interested candidates can collect application forms from the nearest Shriram Chit branches or from its office at No 15, II floor, Rangapillai Street, Puducherry.

The last date for submitting filled-in forms is July 10.

The contestants would be divided into four groups — juniors (Classes VI-VIII) seniors (Classes IX and X), super seniors (Classes XII and XIII) and those studying diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses. A total of six students at junior level, two each from one class and four students each from senior and super senior levels would be allowed to participate in the competition.

At the college level, six students (four from undergraduate and two postgraduate students) would be allowed to participate in the competition. Each contestant can speak for five minutes on various subjects.

The competition will have preliminary, semi and finals rounds. The preliminary round and the semi finals would be held on the same day. Winners in each group will be given a cash award of Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 as first, second and third prize respectively.
