‘State will build houses for poorest’

Loan waiver melas to be conducted from July 7 to 14

Ryots who clear loans regularly to get compensation

VIZIANAGARAM: Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana has said that the State government is contemplating opening “middle-level” banks shortly for releasing bridge loan amount of Rs.30,000 to each Indiramma beneficiary. The amount is in addition to Rs.43,000 sanctioned for each unit.

Addressing a large number of participants in the ‘kisan rally’ on the sprawling Raja R.S.R.K. Ranga Rao College in Bobbili on Monday, Mr. Satyanarayana said that the government would construct houses on its own to the poorest of the poor who have no means to avail the benefit.

Reeling out welfare measures the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government had launched, Mr. Satyanarayana said that loan waiver melas would be conducted at the banks in each mandal from July 7 to 14 and issued certificates to farmers. He said that 26,000 farmers who had availed loans to the tune of Rs.20 crores from District Cooperative Central Bank would get the benefit. He said 30,000 farmers who cleared loans regularly would get compensation at the rate of Rs.5,000 each.

Naidu flayed

Criticising TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu for pointing out irregularities in NREGP works during his “Mee Kosam” programme, Mr. Satyanaraya said that TDP leaders had no right to talk about the scheme, as they themselves were responsible for irregularities in the food-for-work programme and added that because of migrations then the number of Assembly constituencies that were finalised on the basis of population had come down to nine from 12 in the district.

Minister for Forests S. Vijayarama Raju said that no other Chief Minister in the past had launched so many number of welfare schemes for the poor and loan waiver was a bold step by the Centre.

Earlier, a massive rally was taken out from Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple to Raja R.S.R.K. Ranga Rao College grounds. V.V. Rama Rao, DCC president and MLC, P. Sambasiva Raju, K. Ravibabu, Sujaya Krishna Ranga Rao, MLAs, and a host of Congress leaders participated in the rally.
