Set up ATM

The ICICI bank has no branch or an automated teller machine at Tiruchendur and hence, the customers go to Veerapandian Pattinam, about three km away from, where it has a branch with an ATM. I request bank authorities to consider installation of an ATM at Tiruchendur.

Petrol price

Though the Government claims that price of petrol has been increased by Rs.5 per litre, practically the hike is Rs.9. Since the announcement of price rise, no petrol bunk is supplying ordinary petrol. They ruthlessly tell the customers either premium or speed petrol is available, which Rs.4 extra per litre.

Regulate fares

The State Government has permitted all “non-express” transport corporations to cover long distance express buses such as Nagercoil-Tirupur, Kovai, Salem, etc. To regulate the fares of these services, the Government has divided the mofussil services as “ordinary” (28 paise per km) and “express” (32 paise per km). Based on this, the TNSTC (Nagercoil) has converted all such long distance services as “TSS Express” and revised the fares. Now, the management has started revising the fares of ordinary services on a par with “TSS express” services merely changing the name as “SSS Express.” These services also charge fares on a par with “TSS Express” but the travel time remains the same. This causes much difficulty to the public.

Bad practice

Nowadays, two-wheelers are used as vehicles for carrying goods. Lengthy stack of fodder for domestic animals is carried horizontally on the pillion with the stack extending three feet on either sides of the vehicle. Huge items like rice bags are carried on the crossbar of a moped where the driver, in a prone position, keeps his chest closely pressing the bag lest it falls en route. Filled containers of gas cylinders and milk cans are carried on the sides of the vehicle. All concerned must, therefore, educate the public onthe hazards involved in carrying goods on two-wheelers so as to stop the practice.

Tuticorin.

Resume train service

Traffic on Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur line was closed on 31.12.2006.

Various announcements were made by the railway administration as to the date of commencement of the traffic, like June 2007, December 2007, April 2008 etc. But the public are at a loss to know when traffic will resume on this line.

R. Augustine Selvaraj,

Nazareth.
