PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Monday issued directions to the State Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) to explore the possibility of herding elephants from the neighbouring States of Maharashtra and Karnataka to drive away the wild elephant from Dhargal, a village in Pernem taluk of north Goa. A man died following an attack by a wild elephant at Dhargalim village in Pernem taluk of north Goa. Mr. Kamat issued the directions after he heard a delegation led by Minister for Panchayats Manohar Azgaonkar. The delegation met the Chief Minister to demand compensation for the damage caused to the cultivations by the wild elephant which is reported to have entered the forest of Pernem taluk from across the border. The farmers, about 50, from Dhargal and its surrounding areas apprised the Chief Minister of the loss they suffered due to the damage caused to their banana cultivations, vegetables and coconut plantation. Speaker Pratapsingh Rane, Minister for Forests Phillip Nery Rodrigues, Chief Secretary J.P. Singh and Secretary, Forests, Rajeev Yaduvanshi were present.
