Industrialist Vijay Sankeshwar was not present in the House.

Soon after the MLCs took oath, M.P. Nadagouda observed that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa should have come to House and introduced the new members and his Cabinet colleagues to the House in keeping with the tradition.

Introductions

However, V.S. Acharya, who was elected Leader of the House, introduced the new members and some of the Ministers present in the House. Veeranna Mattikatti was designated Leader of the Opposition for the current session.

Earlier, the 108th session of the Council paid rich tributes to the former Chief Minister S.R. Bommai, the former Union Minister Basavarajeshwari, the former MP Channayya Wodeyar, the former Minister Eva Vaz, D. Kariyappa Gowda, writer Saritha Kusumakar Desai and Blasius D’Souza, who died recently before the expiry of his tenure.

Their services and contribution were recalled by Prof. Chandrashekar, Dr. Acharya, Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure Development G. Janardhan Reddy, Congress members Mr. Mattikatti, Basavaraj Horatti, V.S. Ugrappa and V.R. Sudarshan, and Mr. Nadagouda of the Janata Dal (United).

Y.S.V. Datta of the Janata Dal (Secular) and some others said the House should also mourn the death of the farmer killed in police firing in Haveri and others who had committed suicide because they were either unable to get fertilizers or repay money borrowed for agricultural purposes.

Prof. Chandrashekar said he would accommodate a single-line reference on the farmer’s death in the condolence resolution.
