Sector-specific teams to arrive

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: A more sector-specific delegation from Singapore will visit the State to work out areas of investments, P.H. Kurian, Industries Secretary, said here on Monday.

Talking to The Hindu on the sidelines of a meeting between a delegation, led by Balaji Sadasivan, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), Mr. Kurian said the team was apprised of the varied investment opportunities presented by Kerala. He said the Minister was happy with what was presented at the meeting and agreed to send a more sector-specific delegation to work on it.

The delegation was convinced that Kerala was a changed place with labour-related problems on the wane. He said the sign was good with two projects in health care and tourism already off the ground and more projects expected to follow.

Earlier, the KSIDC organised an interactive session with the delegation. An presentation on investment opportunities in Kerala preceded that.

Many business opportunities were discussed, prominent among them being a free trade warehousing zone, information technology parks, a Biopolis and a life science park.

Overview

The Industries Secretary gave an overview of the fundamental and unique selling points of Kerala, the new growth areas and the sectors coming up, Predeep K. Menon, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), said.

“It gave us an idea as in which direction the State is heading, the government policies and programmes in place and the objectives and targets of the Central government as regards Kerala,” he said.
