Action against those who fail to report vacancies ‘No punching machines in government offices’ THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will consider increasing the tenure of Public Service Commission (PSC) rank lists to four years, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said. Replying to questions in the Assembly on Monday, Mr. Achuthanandan said that the government was not opposed to returning the answer-sheets to candidates who appear for the examinations conducted by the commission. A concession could be given to candidates who cross the prescribed age-limit for jobs after figuring in the rank lists. There was no ban on recruitments in the State, he added. Action would be taken against those who fail to report vacancies for the physically challenged to the commission, the Chief Minister said. The government had given directions to the heads of departments and others concerned to report all vacancies in time. If needed, the government would set up a monitoring cell at the Secretariat to identify and report vacancies arising from time to time. The government was of the view that all appointments, including those to universities, should be handed over to the commission, but it should be in a natural course and not through coercion, he said. Mr. Achuthanandan said that steps for issuing identity cards to non-resident Keralites were in the final stage. A pilot project would be launched in Malappuram and then extended to other districts. Land acquisition for the expansion of Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram was in the final stage. Registration was being completed. He clarified that there was no proposal to install punching machines in government offices. The government was examining complaints of misuse of foreign funds against Gospel for Asia and Believers’ Church of India. Work on the new terminal at Thiruvananthapuram airport would be completed by December 2008, he said. Amendments to the Registration Act were being planned to check alienation of government land using fake documents, Minister for Registration S. Sarma said. Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran said that two high-tech dairies would be set up in Idukki and Wayanad. The government was examining the project, he said.
