Kidney racket accused gets bail

Ghaziabad: Upendra, an accused in the infamous kidney transplant racket, was granted bail by a designated court here on Monday, exactly six months after his arrest in connection with the case from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Special CBI judge Sapna Mishra Tripathi granted the bail to Dr. Upendra on the condition of one personal bond and two sureties of Rs one lakh each.

However, the doctor presently lodged in Haryana’s Ambala jail, will not be released from judicial custody as some other cases are pending against him.

Dr Upendra’s counsel Ramesh Chand said he was granted bail as the CBI, probing the case, has not been able to file any charge-sheet against him within 90 days.

The case was registered against Dr Upendra on January 24 at Moradabad’s Civil Line police station following a complaint of one Vidya Prakash Jatav alias Pappu who alleged that the accused along with his other accomplices had removed his kidney in Gurgaon. In his complaint, Jatav had also named alleged kidney racket kingpin Dr Amit, Dr Jiwan, Dr Jagdish and Dr Gyasuddin along with others. Dr Upendra has been in judicial custody ever since he was arrested on January 24. PTI
