COLOMBO: Sri Lanka on Monday claimed at least 31 LTTE cadres were killed and 70 injured as troops “surged” into LTTE-held positions in the north of the country. The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) claimed in the Mannar battlefront, troops destroyed eight LTTE bunkers killing 20 cadres and injured 34. Clashes were reported from Charaddikulam, Chalampan, Vediyamuruppu, Kovitkanchi and Ampadiilupukulam. MCNS reported that fighting had begun in Janakapura, Manikindamalei, Veddankern, and eight soldiers were wounded. Troops uncovered 96AP mines and six IEDs during search operations.
