BANGALORE: G.V.S. Prasad spun a web around the North Zone batsmen to skittle out the visitor for a paltry 137 on the opening day of the four-day final of the Col. Hemu Adhikari Trophy (U-19) inter-zonal cricket tournament at the RSI grounds here on Monday. Prasad, with his off-breaks, snared five for 19 in 6.1 overs to send North reeling. South Zone in reply had made 13 for the loss of one wicket in three overs. Overnight rain delayed the start and when the match commenced after lunch North had no answer to the tidy South attack, barring a 75-ball 37 from the blade of Mandeep Singh. Medium-pacer A. Mithun (two for 37) and left-arm spinner Lalith Mohan (two for 35) provided the ideal foil for Prasad. At the IAF grounds, East thanks to a fine opening stand of 159 runs between S. Chaterjee (99, 9x4) and S.S. Mandal (62) had made 276 for four in 90 overs against All-India Universities (AIU) in the third place play-off. The scores (final): North Zone: 137 in 57.1 overs (Mandeep Singh 37, G.V.S. Prasad five for 19) vs. South Zone 13 for one in three overs. Third place play-off: East Zone 276 for four in 90 overs (S. Chaterjee 99, S.S. Mandal 62, P. Swarupam 34, Rishav Das 38 batting) vs. AIU. — Special Correspondent
