Kidney transplant racket accused gets bail

Ghaziabad (UP): Dr. Upendra, an accused in the kidney transplant racket, was granted bail by a designated court here on Monday, exactly six months after his arrest from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Special CBI judge Sapna Mishra Tripathi granted the bail on the condition of one personal bond and two sureties of Rs 1 lakh each.

However, the doctor now lodged in Haryana’s Ambala jail, will not be released from judicial custody as some other cases are pending against him. Dr. Upendra’s counsel Ramesh Chand said he was granted bail as the CBI has not been able to file any chargesheet within 90 days. The case was registered against Dr. Upendra on January 24 following a complaint of one Vidya Prakash Jatav alias Pappu who alleged that the accused along with his other accomplices had removed his kidney in Gurgaon. — PTI
