Investiture ceremony held

At a colourful investiture ceremony held at the Campion Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, the pupil leader and house-captains for the academic year 2008-09 were sworn in. G. Aravind is the school pupil leader and D. Arul Kevin Daniel is the assistant school pupil leader.

T. Mothi Periasamy is the captain for the Britto House, while A. Srayans Kumar is the assistant captain.

For Loyola House, R. Vikram is the captain and B. Akash is the assistant captain.

B. Pandarinath is the captain for the Xavier House and B. Asife Ahamed is the assistant captain.

For the Montfort House David Lalthanmawia is the captain, while J.J. Norman Clifford is the assistant captain.

The Commanding Officer, 117 Infantry (BN) TA, The Guards, Col. C.P. Medappa was the chief guest for the function and presented the sashes and badges to the students. Principal Rev. Bro. J. Jesuraj administered the oath to the newly elected students. Vice-Principal Bro. David was present on the occasion.

A thematic play by the students was also a part of the function.

School toppers honoured

A. Gayathri and Poonguzhali, both students of Srirangam Girls Higher Secondary School, emerged school toppers in the recent plus two and tenth examinations respectively. Gayathri scored 1176 marks out of a possible 1200, while Poonguzhali scored 486 marks out of 500.

The duo along with other toppers in Standard VI to IX and XI were honoured in a function held at the school recently.

The Assistant Station Director of the All India Radio, Tiruchi, V. Srinivasan was the chief guest for the felicitation function and gave away prizes to the toppers.

The School Management Committee secretary Sadagoparamanujam presided.

Retired Headmistress Sathyabama and School Management Committee member Ragavendran offered felicitations. Headmistress Nirmala and Assistant Headmistress Rani Chandrika commended the students.

Free breakfast scheme inaugurated

Free breakfast scheme for the students of St. Joseph’s College Higher Secondary School was inaugurated for the current academic year by the Headmaster Rev. Fr. A. Augustine. The scheme started six years ago, with an idea to enable students pay more attention in the classrooms and take part in extra curricular activities, gets contributions from the Student Uplift Animation Movement (SUPAM), teaching and non-teaching staffs, former students and others.

Additional Assistant Headmaster Raja and Staff Association Secretary U. Amalraj were present on the occasion.

Awareness rally

The students of Sri Sivananda Balalaya took out an environmental awareness campaign rally in Tiruchi recently.

Mayor Sarubala R. Tondaiman flagged it off from Kohinoor theatre in the presence of Subburaman of SCOPE and Exnora advisor V. Ganapathy.

It passed through Thillai Nagar, Puthur four roads, Vayalur Road and culminated at the school. Students carried placards highlighting the need for growing trees, controlling pollution.

Pamphlets focussing on the need to conserve environment were distributed to the people.

A short street play by the students also formed a part of the rally.

School Correspondent K.G. Meenakshi and Headmistress S. Sasikala led the rally.

Notebooks distributed

The Tiruchi District union of the Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sangaham celebrated ‘Muperum Vizha’ recently.

Free notebooks were distributed to the poor students on the occasion. Philanthropists and social workers were also honoured. President M.V. Sabari Dasan, Patron N.V. Murali and Secretary T.M. Sridar offered felicitations.
