Forum demands authority to preserve heritage
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Concerned over the neglect of Kempegowda’s four towers in the city, members of Bangalore Nirmapaka Kempegowda Kendra Samiti have demanded that the Government set up a separate authority to preserve heritage monuments.
“We want an exclusive Authority on the lines of Bangalore Development Authority and Kannada Development Authority for the preservation of historical monuments in the city. It is unfortunate that the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) that is supposed to maintain the four towers and the samadhi of Kempegowda’s daughter-in-law Laxmi Devi is doing nothing to preserve these monuments.” samiti general secretary Marimallaiah said.
Memorandum
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Marimallaiah said the members would soon submit a memorandum pressing for their demands to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
To mark the 496th birth anniversary of Kempegowda, the samiti has organised a Kempegowda Jayanthotasava on June 25. The celebrations will be inaugurated by Mr. Yeddyurappa, he said.
