A metre gauge train was running from Quilon to Nagore via Madurai catering to the needs of the people of Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts and also the people of Quilon, Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari. It was cancelled in 1995 as the gauge conversion was taken up. Now the work is over up to Nagore. Now train number 727 and 728 are running from Quilon to Madurai. Hence, I request the authorities concerned to extend the above trains up to Nagore so that public which will be able to easily rech Velankanni , Nagore and Thirunallar. S. George, Karaikal. Postal staff behaviourI have deposited my pension benefits in a post office and getting interest for the same every month. The behaviour of the Central Government employees working in post offices is not satisfactory. Now the Rajappa Nagar post office merged with the Co-operative Nagar post office functioning in an old-house which is far away from the LIC Colony. The officials are also not ready to update the pass-book and say not to wait there to get the amount. It is difficult for us who really depend on our pension allowacne to get our monthly interest there. The government should take necessary action to restore the post-offices from proper and easily accessible locations and to consider the needs and rights of the senior citizens too. S. Ponnammal, Thanjavur. IT park in ThanjavurWe welcome V Sivapunniyam’s CPI MLA, idea to set up an IT park in Thanjavur which is known as ‘Rice Bowl’ of Tamil Nadu. We request the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to acknowledge the CPI MLA’s request for his home town, so that directly or indirectly 10,000 people will be benefited. J.Rajesh Khanna, Thanjavur. No reply from Anna UnivesityThe secretariat of Anna University is in a state of utter confusion and chaos. I have sent my application for the admission in engineering colleges on May 23, 2008 from Tiruchengode post office by Speed Post. Till date I have not received the acknowledgement card from the Anna University. I have sent several emails to available email addresses of Anna University but no reply has been given to me. Many people like me have not received the acknowledgement card. Anna University’s “instructions to candidates” clause clearly states that there will not be any correspondence between applicants and the university as regards the receipt of applications. Anna University is not even bothered to answer emails. N. Ramanathan, Kumbakonam. Justice in criminal casesConsidering the present situation in the administration and rendering of justice in criminal cases; there cannot be two views that the investigation of crimes, bringing the real culprit to justice and awarding appropriate punishment require a thorough amendment of existing laws to meet the needs of time. The situation still continues. In a criminal cognizable case it is the prerogative of the police to investigate the case and file a charge sheet or not. In several cases due to the imperfect investigation want only, or otherwise, the accused are honourably acquitted by court. Now as a matter of safe-guard the law may be amended by which an opportunity can be given to the complainant to examine his set of witnesses. In that case there will be 3 sets of evidence i.e., one set by police, another set by the complainant and the third set by the accused. If so the court can come to a clear decision in the light of 3 sets of evidence, instead of being at the mercy of evidence let in by the police. ERM. Ramalingam, Pudukkottai. Price of meals in hotelsThe State Government has implemented the scheme to provide limited meals in hotels for Rs.20. The normal meals costs Rs.25 to Rs.30. Some hotels do not follow the rules. The Government may consider avoiding two varieties of meals by setting an average price. A. Haja Abdul Khader, Adirampattinam. Warn autos about school tripsDespite a warning from the Collector, autorickshawss carrying school children in Karur seems to be overcrowded. Before any untoward incident take place, authorities should deal the issue with an iron hand and punish the infringers, since prevention is better than cure. SP. Murugappan Karur. Call rates of prepaid schemesThe customers of Reliance, Airtel, Aircel and Vodafone are not aware of the pulse rates charged by them for mobile to mobile, mobile to land line and landline to mobile. Since they are making good profits in prepaid services, it is mandatory for the companies to appraise their customers about the call rates. This can be publicised through all medias. K. Santhanam, Kumbakonam.
