Puja committee chief shot dead

KORAPUT: Balaram Sahukar, president of Agni Gangmma Puja Committee of Nilabadi in Bandhugaon block of Koraput district, was shot dead by naxalites on Sunday. According to sources, three naxalites, all men, had entered Nilabadi village at about 11 in the night and searched for Balaram. Failing to trace him out, they had first entered his brother’s house and asked his son to escort them to Balaram’s house.

However, Balaram did not open the doors immediately due to fear, sources said. The naxals had asked him to hand over his licensed gun. Balaram informed them that he had deposited the gun at the local police station. Not satisfied with his reply, the naxalites opened fire at him. Balaram died on the spot.
