KORAPUT: People in Koraput, Sunabeda, and Damanjodi and Semiliguda areas are panicked following ash filled rain drops lashing the areas for the last few days. Water collected from the roofs and stored in buckets for household use are found to have collected a layer of white dust on the top. More trouble for the residents of the region was foreseen in the event of ash getting mixed with drinking water especially in the rural pockets of the district, Pravakar Adhikari, secretary, Pragati, an NGO working for protecting the environment in the district, said. He said the water and its content should be examined scientifically for taking up remedial measures. District Collector Balakrishan Sahu, however, has assured to initiate immediate steps to find out source of the dust particles and its effects.
