BHUBANESWAR: The Department of Culture is gearing up for the special annual convention of the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in the temple town of Puri on July 7. Culture Minister S.N. Patro told media persons that this would be the first meeting of its kind in the State in which nine member states and union territories – Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, Manipur, Sikkim, Andaman & Nicober Islands besides host Orissa – would participate. Besides West Bengal Governor and EZCC chairperson Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Culture Ministers of all the member states would attend , Mr.Patro said. Union Tourism and Culture minister Ms.Ambika Soni would also attend it, he added. The day-long meet would deliberate on various policies and programmes of EZCC, one of the seven regional centers under the Ministry of Culture. The thrust would be on the revival of the dying and marginalised folk arts traditions of various states, hinted the Minister. The annual action plan for the next fiscal year would be presented in the convention, it was learnt. A high level committee has been set up with Minister Mr.Patro, Culture Commissioner Mr. B.K.Jena and EZCC deputy director Mr.S.P.Chattopadhyay to monitor the major event that would be attended by more than a hundred delegates.
