Bangalore: The Government will bring in an amendment to the industrial policy, framed in 2006, within three months after studying the policies in other States, said Murgesh Nirani, Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries.

He was speaking at a function to inaugurate the Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) Udyog Bhavan, here on Monday. Mr. Nirani said that the Government was keen on encouraging industrial development in the State. “In this direction, the Government has started working towards development of infrastructure. Roads are being laid and mini airports are being set up,” he said. He said that an industrial corridor would be developed along National Highway-4 till Mumbai. “Though there is an industrial corridor from Chennai to Bangalore, almost 70 per cent comes under Tamil Nadu. By developing another corridor till Mumbai, we will be able to promote industrial hubs in Tumkur, Davanagere, Chitradurga and Hubli,” he said. Mr. Nirani said that close to 150 acres of land would be acquired on either side of the national highway to set up Special Economic Zones and industrial parks. He said the Government would look into the demands of KASSIA. Venkataramanappa, Minister for Small Scale Industries, said that the Government was keen on encouraging setting up of industrial units outside Bangalore and in rural areas of backward districts. “We will provide all facilities. The industrial units and the State will benefit this way. The Government will announce a subsidy to ensure this,” he said. He said the Government would facilitate a one-time settlement of loans. KASSIA submitted a six-point memorandum to the Ministers. A souvenir and an industrial directory were released on the occasion.
