Congress seniors welcome resignation

Staff Reporter

MSR hopes for positive decision soon by Congress

CPI sees near split in the TD with Goud’s exit

KARIMNAGAR: Senior Congress leader M. Satyanarayana Rao has welcomed the resignation of T. Devender Goud from the TDP claiming that it will further strengthen the demand for separate Telangana State.

In an informal chat with newsmen here on Monday, Mr. Rao felt that the difference of opinion he had with TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Telangana had prompted him to quit the party. “It is a good decision as he is already facing charges of damaging the party,” he said.

APCC president D. Srinivas, however, refused to comment on the resignation as “it is a pure internal matter of the TDP.”

Special Correspondent from Hyderabad adds: Another strong votary of Telangana and CWC member G. Venkataswamy said Mr. Goud’s resignation showed that Telangana leaders of not only the Congress, but even those in the TDP were unhappy at the stand of their respective parties. He said he was a votary of a separate State himself, but being a member of the CWC, he could not publicly give vent to his feelings.

Realignment of forces

Reacting to the development, CPI State secretary K. Narayana told reporters at Mylavaram in Krishna district that the resignation was a pointer to realignment of forces at the State level that was in the offing. New forces would become active on the political scene because there would be a near split in the TDP with Mr. Goud’s exit.

He refused to speculate about the course of action of the resigned TDP leaders.
