Rally for education held

ENTHUSIASTIC: School students during a rally in Tiruchi on Monday to emphasise compulsory enrolment of children.

TIRUCHI: Transport Minister K.N. Nehru flagged off a rally by 1,000 students as part of the Intensive School Enrolment Campaign at Woraiyur in the city on Monday.

Deputy Mayor M. Anbalagan, Chief Educational Officer–Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan C. Amuthavalli and other senior officials of education department were present on the occasion. Students from eight schools took part in the rally that commenced at the S.M. Higher Secondary School and meandered through Woraiyur Bazaar, Walaja Road and CSI Higher Secondary School before returning to the starting point.

Carrying placards calling for compulsory enrolment of all children in schools, the students raised slogans emphasising on education to all children of school-going age and on bringing dropouts back into the fold of education.
