211 bags of PDS rice seized during inspection

PUDUKOTTAI: In a surprise inspection of vehicles in the early hours of Monday, a special squad of Revenue officials seized as many as 211 bags of rice meant for public distribution, allegedly moved from Pudukottai to Andakulam.
A team of revenue officials led by the Special Tahsildar, B. Veerapandian, effected the seizure which was worth Rs.2.5 lakh, by intercepting the lorry used for moving the rice, at Vaazhavaasal village near here.
The District Supply Officer, Kalaiselvi, and the Revenue Divisional Officer, Mohan, who inspected the consignment, said that the special team swung into action, following a tip-off. The lorry has also been confiscated. The authorities handed over the rice to the Food Cell police wing in Thanjavur, for initiating criminal proceedings.
