Postgraduates from southern districts need not go to Chennai for registration in future DINDIGUL: An employment office to enable postgraduates to register their names would be set up in Madurai shortly. Pos graduates from southern districts need not go to Chennai for registration in future, according to T.M. Anbarasan, Minister for Labour and Employment and Training. He was inaugurating a new building at Industrial Training Institute (women) here on Monday. To produce more technical hands, three ITIs had been started this year at Andimadam, Sivaganga and Perambalur at a cost of Rs.8 crore. “The government has offered jobs to 2.81 lakh persons through various departments so far. Besides, 3.53 lakh unemployed youth have been getting financial assistance every quarter. Automation of employment offices was in full swing at a cost of Rs.2.90 crore, he added. In his address, Labour Secretary Ramesh Kumar Khanna said efforts were on to increase girls’ strength in ITIs to 25 per cent from 10 per cent. Twelve ITIs would be upgraded at a cost of Rs.2.5 crore. Special fees of Rs.1,200 in all ITIs would be cancelled from this year and number of seats in ITIs would be increased by 30 per cent. New subjects such as electronics, electro-engineering, information technology and computer hardware and computer aided courses would be introduced, he said. Revenue Minister I. Periasami said that efforts were on to bring government medical and engineering colleges to Dindigul. Fashion Technology CentreThe women ITI will have Fashion Technology Centre soon in collaboration with hosiery and knitting industries in Tirupur at an estimated cost of Rs.2.5 crore, said E.N. Palanisamy, Chairman, Dindigul ITI Management Committee. This job-oriented training centre cum workshop would train students on designing, cutting, stitching, needle work and embroidery designing, he added. “Funds had already been sanctioned. We are waiting for orders to commence work.” Experts from Tirupur would impart hands on training to students. After training, they would do job work in the workshop, he added. The new building, constructed at a cost of Rs.61 lakh, houses a workshop, administrative block and hostel.
