Chennai: A three-member committee has been constituted to examine and report on the administrative paralysis in basketball and hockey associations in the State. Concerned over the increasing factionalism and dissidence within these State units, Sivanthi Adityan, President, Tamil Nadu Olympic Association, has set up a three-member panel consisting of Walter Dawaram (athletics), J.S. Chopra (swimming) and C.R. Viswanathan (football). What worries the TNOA is the damage that the crisis in the administration of hockey and basketball is causing to the image and development of sports in the State. While admitting that the State bodies are directly attached to the national federation and governed by their respective constitutions, the TNOA feels it has a definite role to play to facilitate a working mechanism within the constitutional frame-work of the troubled State units. Talking on the subject and emphasising that the Tamil Nadu Olympic Association would like to play a neutral role in solving the problems arising out of claims and counter-claims over the governance of hockey and basketball in the state, K. Murugan, Secretary, said “the TNOA did not receive a formal complaint till recently. However, a close study of the media reports kept the TNOA informed of the developments and the need to step in”. The three-member team is expected to meet all the parties concerned and suggest ways and means to resolve the ticklish issues. The report will be submitted to Sivanthi Adityan next month, at the time of the general body meeting. Nagaraj triumphsD. Nagaraj (76 gross) emerged triumphant in the open category of the June monthly medal golf tournament held at Madras Gymkhana Club annexe on Sunday. Darshan Veeraraghavan (77 gross) finished second. Other results: Handicap (0-18): 1. Karun Alaganan (70 Nett), 2. V.P. Ghanesh (70 Nett).
