VISAKHAPATNAM: Passengers continued to suffer as several express trains to and from Howrah either remained cancelled or were running late for the eighth day on Tuesday. The cancellation and late running of trains was due to water logging and breaching as a result of floods in Orissa and West Bengal. In the absence of proper information by the Railways, passengers were seen waiting at the railway station. A passenger complained that there was no proper response from the authorities when they phoned the enquiry, and when he went to the station the staff concerned were reluctant to answer their queries. He said that the authorities were not in a position to tell when the services would be restored. Though the authorities were displaying the numbers of the trains that were cancelled on the electronic boards at the station, there was hardly any announcement over the public address system regarding the cancellation. The trains that remained cancelled on Tuesday included: 5629 Guwahati Express, 2841 Coromandel Express, 2665 Kanyakumari Express, 3351 Dhanbad-Alleppey, 3352 Alleppey-Dhanbad, 2864 Yeshwantpur-Howrah, 5228 Muzaffarpur-Yeshwantpur and 2510 Guwahati -Bangalore. Train no. 2839 Howrah–Chennai Mail was running late indefinitely. “Only 2839/2840 mails are being run regularly on the diverted route via Jharsguda and Bilaspur. Other trains coming from and bound for Howrah are likely to be cancelled till the end of this month,” station manager M. Prasada Rao said.
