Kozhikode: If you have passed out of an industrial training institute or hold the National Council of Vocational Training certificate, 14,000 jobs await you Down Under. “There is a great need for plumbers, mechanics and the like [in Australia]. They can get up to Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh per month in Australia,” says Girija Karunakar of Education Overseas Academy, Kozhikode. To go to Australia under general skilled migration, the applicant should be under 45 years of age and have acceptable level of English proficiency demonstrated by an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score. They must have post-secondary qualifications, such as the National Trade Certificate, diploma or degree or equivalent qualifications in an occupation listed in the ‘skilled occupations list,’ and at least a year’s work experience in the past two years before applying. The application process is in two stages: first, apply for ‘skills assessment’ for migration to the relevant Australian skills assessing authority. On obtaining successful results, the applicant should take the IELTS test. “Tradespersons need only five bands in each of the IELTS component of reading, writing, speaking and listening, while other professionals may require six or seven,” Ms. Karunakar says. Nandakumar Pinnath, an information technology professional, advises aspirants to apply through registered agents, who are given the Registered Migration Agents Number (MARN) number. “This makes the migration process a little bit easier also,” he adds. Candidates can look out for job opportunities in Australia on web sites like www.seek.co.au and www.mycareer.com.au
