London: India’s new High Commissioner to the U.K. Shiv Shankar Mukherjee presented his credentials to Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday at an impressive ceremony at the Buckingham Palace. The veteran diplomat, belonging to the 1971 batch of the Foreign Service, went to the Palace in a horse-drawn coach from his residence at Kensington Palace Gardens in keeping with the tradition. Mr. Mukherjee was till recently India’s Ambassador to Nepal and has served as High Commissioner to South Africa and Ambassador to Egypt. He has also worked at Washington in a senior position. The affable diplomat succeeds Kamalesh Sharma. — PTI
