Machavaram police begin probe Documents and cash intact VIJAYAWADA: The Machavaram police on Tuesday began probe into the “mysterious disappearance” of 50 kasu of gold and 7 kg of silver from one of the lockers in the Siddhartha Nagar branch of Andhra Bank, following the lodging of a complaint to this effect by locker owner Musunuri Lakshmibayamma, a senior citizen and a resident of Ashok Nagar. She said in her complaint that she has been maintaining the locker since 2004 and the valuables were kept some time ago. She said that she last opened the locker on June 7 to keep some documents and Rs.9,000 cash before leaving for Mt. Abu along with her husband Narayana Rao. After returning to the city on June 21, Ms. Lakshmibayamma checked the locker on Tuesday and was shocked to notice the gold and silver missing. The documents and the cash were intact. Acting on the complaint, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Ramachandra Murthy pressed the CLUES team and the dog squad to collect fingerprints and any other evidence that could provide any direction to the crime. He said there was no possibility of any outsider opening the locker, and hence nothing could be said at this moment. A case would be registered under Section 408 (criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant) of the IPC, he said. Charge memoPolice Commissioner K.V. Rajendranath Reddy on Tuesday dropped Penamaluru Sector-2 sub-inspector Nageswara Rao and constable K. Purnachandra Rao from duties and asked them to report in the Commissionerate following their “failure” to prevent trouble and rasta roko in the wake of a road accident at Poranki on June 22. A charge memo was served on inspector Madhusudhana Rao too.
