Youth feigns to be kidnap victim
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: Hours after a college student, who was reported missing five days ago, called up his grandfather on Tuesday to say that he had been kidnapped, the police found that the telephone call was made by youth himself.
T. Jayakumar, whose parents lodged a police complaint that he was missing, called his grandfather living in Egmore on Tuesday evening and said that he had been kidnapped.
His grandfather immediately informed the police.
The police traced the call to a public call office in Avadi.
A few policemen went to the PCO and showed the photograph of the youth to the staff there and asked if Jayakumar had been spotted in the locality.
The PCO staff said that the youth had made a call some time ago.
Police said Jayakumar had absented himself for two years from a private college in Nungambakkam where he was studying B.Sc. Computer Science.
He had told his family that he had passed the bachelor’s degree and was applying for a master’s programme.
Police have launched a hunt for him.
