THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Would students be able to strike a perfect balance between academics and their National Cadet Corps (NCC) activities? Most students and parents believe that devoting time for NCC would affect studies. But two NCC cadets of 1 Kerala (Girls) Battalion have shown that one could excel in NCC activities and at the same time, also excel in their examinations. Misconceptions that one would suffer at the academics front if they devote time for NCC have been negated by Cpl Aiswariya Vijayan and Sgt Aswathy L. Both girls are students of St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Pattom. They have done both the NCC and the institution proud by scoring 99.4 per cent marks in this year’s Higher Secondary Examination. The two students have cleared the common entrance test and are now preparing to join for a professional course with their goals set to be engineers. Equally active and vibrant in NCC activities, the two cadets have attended important NCC camps like the Republic Day parade, the Thal Sainik Camp and they represented Kerala at the National Integration Camp. Because of having to attend these camps, they had to miss many classes. Still, they came out with flying colours in their Higher Secondary Examinations. Commanding Officer, 1 Kerala (Girls) Battalion Lt. Col. Sanjeev Mehra told The Hindu that the two cadets have produced all round excellence and have become role models for other cadets.
