PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Wednesday said Chief Minister N. Rangasamy should step down and recommend to the Centre to hold fresh elections to the Assembly in view of the prevailing “political crisis” in the Union Territory. Secretary of the Puducherry unit of the AIADMK A. Anbalagan told reporters here that if the territorial government did not quit on its own, the President should intervene and dismiss it, invoking Article 356. An extraordinary situation prevailed in the Union Territory with “collapse of the administration, deterioration of law and order and development schemes coming to a standstill owing to paucity of funds,” he said. The Chief Minister was unable to conduct a full-fledged Cabinet meeting or implement the announcements made by him on the floor of the Assembly with regard to the development and welfare schemes, he alleged. Mr.Anbalagan also accused Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V.Narayanasamy and the five Ministers in the Union Territory for “contributing to the political crisis by resorting to public criticism”.
