Representatives favoured their relatives Ombudsman finds prima facie evidence Kozhikode: The Ombudsman for local self-government institutions on Wednesday issued directions to the State Performance Audit Officers to examine the details of the Kudumbasree housing project implemented at Kattippara grama panchayat in the district during 2006-07 and submit a report based on their appraisal. Ombudsman M.R. Hariharan Nair issued the order based on a complaint filed by Premji James hailing from Kattippara stating that the grama panchayat president, standing committee chairman and Kudumbasree Community Development Scheme chairperson had indulged in corrupt practices in executing the housing project. The local body representatives, according to the complainant, had awarded undue benefits to their relatives. The Ombudsman also found prima facie evidence in the complaint. Seeks permissionIn another case the Ombudsman issued instructions to the District Collector asking whether permission could be granted to a physically challenged person to set up a shop near the LIC gate at Mananchira Kidson corner in the city. This was based on a report of Joint Director of Urban Planning. The Kozhikode Corporation had earlier denied permission to K.V. Adarash, a resident of Nadakkavu to set up a shop. The complainant has also been asked to submit an application to the District Collector in this regard. Kozhikode Mayor M. Bhaskaran informed the Ombudsman that the Corporation was taking steps to remove the grills erected by an individual on the Corporation-owned Karatt road at Nadakkavu. T.K. Sugunan filed a complaint stating that an individual had blocked the way to his house with grills, thereby creating traffic blocks.
