THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday demanded a judicial probe into the alleged irregularities in the appointment of assistants to the University of Kerala. The KPCC chief was inaugurating the “varsity siege” organised by the Youth Congress in front of the university headquarters at Palayam demanding cancellation of appointment of assistants. Mr. Chennithala said Minister for Education M.A. Baby had no right to continue in office. The Minister who justified the varsity rules in the Assembly should reveal details about the answer sheets. Youth Congress president T. Sidique said Governor R.L. Bhatia, who was also the Chancellor, should take steps to remove the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Syndicate members for irregularities. KPCC general secretaries Benny Behnan, Joseph Vazhakkan, Satheesan Pacheni; DCC president V.S. Sivakumar; George Mercier, P.C. Vishnunath, MLAs, and Youth Congress leaders attended. The siege, which began at 7.30 a.m., came to an end around 12 noon with the police removing the Youth Congress workers. Work hitThe working of the varsity office was partially affected as the Youth Congress activists did not allow the staff to enter the premises after 7.30 a.m. Varsity sources said the Vice-Chancellor and other officials reached the office before 7 a.m. Traffic along the Asan Square-AKG Centre stretch was also affected due to the stir.
