Madikeri
Provide medicines without any delay, doctors told ‘Conduct survey to determine exact number of chikungunya cases’ Madikeri: Kodagu Deputy Commissioner K.R. Niranjan on Wednesday asked medical officers not to show laxity in attending to patients affected by chikungunya in the district. He was visiting the affected areas coming under the Karike Gram Panchayat in Madikeri taluk, an official press release said here. Medicines should be provided to the patients without any delay, he told the medical officers and health staff. The Deputy Commissioner obtained information on the disease from residents of Karike, Chettukaya and surrounding areas, and officials of the Health Department. Mr. Niranjan asked the health officials, staff of the gram panchayat and the revenue officials to conduct a survey to determine the exact number of chikungunya cases in and around Karike. This was needed as patients were also being treated in hospitals in the neighbouring Kerala, he said. Rice would be supplied free of cost to the families of the poor affected by the disease, he added. Earlier, Mr. Niranjan visited Bhagamandala and reviewed the preparations made by the authorities to mitigate sufferings of people during floods. A boat would be pressed into service to ferry people during floods, he was told by the officials. Mr. Niranjan asked the revenue officials to provide information on floods and rainfall to his office regularly.
