Police department issues clarification

Staff Reporter

29 murder cases were reported during 2007, out of which 28 were resolved

PUDUCHERRY: The police on Wednesday clarified that there were only 43 cases of murder reported during the last two years.

A release issued by the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) said the total number of murder cases reported during 2007 in Puducherry region was 29. Twenty eight of those cases have been resolved and charge-sheets given in 19 cases, the release said.

Fourteen cases of murder have been reported in 2008 as on June 24. But for two, all of them were resolved, the release added.

Responding to news reports based on briefing made by leaders of Left parties that there were 79 cases of murder and most of them remain in the FIR stage, the release said “it was incorrect to say that apart from registering FIR, the police had not done anything.”
