Gale results in power supply disruption Roads become water-logged
A water-logged road in Eluru on Wednesday. ELURU: The district recorded moderate to heavy rainfall on Wednesday. The rain, ushering in a sudden change in the day’s temperature, provided much-needed relief to the people who felt deceived with the monsoon playing truant and vexed with the sultry weather and rising day temperature for the last two weeks. Some areas like Eluru experienced gale resulting in damage of power lines and breakdown in power supply. The suburban areas such as Sanivarapupeta, Gavaravaram, Vidyanagar and Shantinagar and Ramachandraraopet in the city experienced breakdown in power supply for over a couple of hours as trees got uprooted and fell on the powerlines, damaging the cables, on account of high-speed gales. The rain threw public life out of gear in the city as rain waters overflowed from drains, turning the busy roads into huge puddles. This caused disruption of traffic at government hospital, Ramachandraraopet, Srinivasa Mahal area, Powerpet and Postal Colony. Traffic held upRajiv Sneha Varadhi, a newly-built low bridge connecting the II-Town and I-Town areas, was filled with floodwaters, holding up traffic on the route for some time. The personnel of Municipal Corporation of Eluru were, as usual, engaged in pumping out water from the low-bridge by installing motors. Meanwhile, the rain is expected to be helpful to farmers in rainfed areas in raising nursery beds for the ensuing khariff. The release of Godavari water from Dhavaleswaram Barrage through the western canal led to a hectic activity in the delta areas with the farmers getting fully engaged in raising seed beds for the next crop season.
