Thiruvananthapuram: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has decided to freeze the appointment of priests to the temples under the Board. Board president C.K. Guptan told The Hindu that the decision to stop the recruitments was taken as per the directions of Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran on Wednesday. Mr. Sudhakaran had given a letter to the board and when the board met it was decided to follow the directions of the Minister. The recruitments would be revived only on getting further directions from the Minister, Mr. Guptan said. Earlier, in the Assembly Mr. Sudhakaran said that he had written to the TDB urging it to freeze the appointment of temple priests following complaints of corruption in the selection process. Replying to a submission from Congress MLA V.D. Satheeshan, he said that the law governing the administration of the TDB did not allow any role for the government in the appointment of priests. This situation would change with the enactment of a new law, the Bill for which would be introduced in the Assembly soon, he said.
