Faster processing of U.S. visas expected

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Extensive infrastructure building at all United States Consulates and the U.S. Embassy in Delhi, besides a new consulate which is soon to be opened in Hyderabad, will shorten the time taken for processing visas, Peter Kaestner, Minister Counsellor for Consular Affairs at the Embassy (in Delhi) said here on Tuesday. Speaking at an interactive meeting organised by the Bangalore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCIC) and American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), he advised visa-seekers in the ‘high tech areas’ to plan their trips at least two months in advance. “Over the past year, we have reduced the waiting time for visa applicants to one month and have increased the strength of visa section staff across India by 25 per cent ,” said Mr. Kaestner.
