Dubai: In the wake of growing controversies over the on-field decisions in international matches, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed five Regional Umpires’ Performance Managers (RUPMs) to coach, mentor and assist umpires across the world. The RUPMs, all experienced umpires themselves, will work towards the continued development of elite umpiring in their specific regions and will provide the individual support programmes that will assist international officials in the various aspects of the work, an ICC release said on Wednesday. India’s Arani Jayaprakash, who has umpired in 13 Tests and 38 one-dayers, was appointed the RUPM for the Asian region, including Bangladesh and India. The other RUPMs are John Holder of England (for America and Europe), Sri Lankan Peter Manuel (for Asia, including Pakistan and Sri Lanka), Ian Robinson of Zimbabwe (for Africa) and Australian Bob Stratford (for Pacific regions). — PTI
