Art paper made by mentally challenged children to be used BANGALORE: Art exhibitions become exceptional when the skills of special children are part of the endeavour. “Art for Prabhat” shows organised by the Society for Child Development are that way special because they highlight the talent of mentally challenged children. The society will be holding an art exhibition in Bangalore on June 26 and 27. “Art for Prabhat” exhibitions display the works of top artists. The canvas used is paper of 300 gsm art quality, acid free, and made sheet by sheet from recycled waste by mentally challenged children of the Society for Child Development and “Prabhat,” a school that takes care of the needs of special children. Madhumita Puri, Managing Director, Society for Child Development, says: “Art for Prabhat is blessed to have more than 100 artists who contribute, through their art, to help improve the quality of life in the ‘special’ world. The proceeds of the show will be used for development of educational and employment facilities for special groups across the country.” The exhibition in Bangalore is the organisation’s first endeavour outside Delhi. Artists from the world over have been promoting the cause since 2001 when the first show was held in New Delhi. Vocational trainingThe society imparts skills and crafts to older children by sending them to vocational training schools. “I feel honoured to be a part of it and want to be among those whose actions touch the lives of people,” says Kalyan Rathore, a Bangalore-based artist and sculptor who will participating in the show with “Ants,” his installation art in steel. “The show has always been exceptional in that it brings together celebrated artists and we have the best medium made by special children. The art paper made by them helps in retaining colour integrity as it is acid-free. The paper is thick and suitable for water colours, and it helps in making rough sketches that are not possible in other papers,” he says. The Bangalore show will include the works of Sanat Kar, Suhas Roy, Jatin Das and Amitava Das, Laxman Aelay, Rajeshwar Rao, Asit Kumar Patnaik, Dharmender Rathore, Neeraj Bakshi and Kalyan Rathore among others. The art exhibition will be held at Colonial, No.11 Walton Road, (above Cinnamon) Off Lavelle Road. For details, log on to www.artforprabhat.com
